The County of Elk was honored to work with four local PHEAA students during the summer of 2025. Through a continued partnership with The Stackpole-Hall Foundation, the County was able to hire these students with support from the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). This initiative provides local students with valuable opportunities to gain hands-on experience in their fields of study while contributing to meaningful work in their community. Through this arrangement PHEAA provides 50% of the wage cost, Stackpole-Hall 40%, and County of Elk 10%.
This summer, the students worked across three different areas of County government.
• Tax Assessment: Two students assisted with data entry and played a key role assisting Assessors in preparing for a major upgrade to assessment technology. Their work included reviewing and updating parcel cards, ensuring accurate name changes and address information.
• Veteran Affairs: One student supported the Veteran Affairs Office by helping process benefit requests for local veterans, contributing to the vital work of assisting those who have served our Country.
• Information Technology (IT): The fourth student worked in the IT Department, assisting with computer, server, and printer maintenance, as well as making updates to the County’s website.
The County of Elk is proud to support educational and professional development for local students, and appreciate the long-standing financial commitment from The Stackpole-Hall Foundation. Their participation allows us to significantly leverage our budgetary constraints. The County looks forward to continuing this valuable program in the years to come.
